According to the latest Barside Buzz, Marvel and Sony look set for a new deal to see Spider-Man stay in the MCU. This is a situation we have been in already a couple times before. However, one imagines that Sony’s happy to keep making their most successful ever movies as a studio. According to leaker Daniel RPK that process has begun. He says Marvel and Sony are in talks to increase the planned time the MCU can use Spider-Man.
The question has always been, what will they ask for in relation to their own SSMU? An SSMU which is flagging badly due to a series or utterly terrible movies. I’ll also stress that I don’t think these discussion have any bearing on Spider-Man 4 directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. Spider-Man 4 is still part of the previous deal struck between the two studios. If this rumors is legit, maybe there will be time for that Spider-Man street level movie after all?
It’s worth noting RPK has a great record with Marvel. However, his Sony/Marvel record is even better and I am therefore inclined to trust his information. Yet, as with all rumors, let’s wait and see what happens during these talks.

RPK also says the plan remains for Kevin Feige’s Marvel Studios to be the ones actually making these MCU movies for Sony. Surely the best deal Sony will ever make?
It is currently expected that Spider-Man 4 will release in July, 2026, right between Avengers movies Doomsday and Secret Wars. Expect Parker’s Spidey to also be a part of those movies as per previous deal.
Meanwhile in other news RPK says he’s heard Aubrey Plaza is expected to feature in more Marvel projects after her debut Agatha All Along.
