Wanna see the Marvel’s Avengers game overview? Read on for more details.
We have known that the Marvel’s Avengers game from Crystal Dynamics was coming for some time. From those original trailer announcements, the details have really dried up though. The game was delayed, so maybe that’s what held back the information? Marvel’s Avengers was originally due out in May, but the game was delayed till September way before the Coronavirus outbreak.
Now we have a new video out from the developers showcasing just how Marvel’s Avengers is going to work as a game. As we all thought Marvel’s Avengers is going to be a GAAS game. That stands for Games As A Service, and specifically, in this case, Marvel’s Avengers will be a looter game. Following in the footsteps of games before it like Destiny, The Division, and Anthem, all looter/shooter games. I don’t know if it would be accurate to call Marvel’s Avengers a looter/shooter, seen as it’s often a beat-em-up. However, If you ever played any of the games I mentioned above, then you have a rough idea of where Marvel’s Avengers is going.
Marvel’s Avengers
Marvel’s Avengers is going to be about making your characters more powerful from loot that drops from completing activities in the game world. That game world can be played in story mode, which seems to be mostly single player. However, more challenging online variations on the story will be able to be played with friends. If the game works similarly to other looters then the more tricky the gameplay, the better the rewards. In the video below you can see different shades of gear from Purple, blue, green etc. The colors usually represent the quality of an item, so the name of the game is to get as high gear as you can. This high-end gear will make you more powerful and enable you to tackle higher-level content, rinse and repeat. Check it out for more thorough details.
The problem with games like this, and evident in all the titles I mentioned above, is how quickly they get old. The trick is to keep having more layers to uncover, so that the game becomes fun to play at high levels. Players want to get great gear because it makes you powerful. The more powerful you are, the easier end game content will be. Eventually, you have all the best gear for all the characters, and you are finished until either an expansion or an update happens.

Seems easy to pull off but history tells us it’s not. Destiny, The Division, and Anthem all had real problems. Destiny recovered to make a great game, then through most of that away in the sequel. The Division suffered similar problems though the sequel seems to be getting more praise. Anthem, well, I bought it, and it was a joke. It was almost impossible to get gear beyond a certain level in Anthem, and after a while, fans realized it was because there was nothing beyond it. Anthem is currently being rebooted and re-released when it actually works.
That’s the worry, no one has managed to pull off one of these games out of the box yet. The only hope is that the delay will allow Crystal Dynamics to make sure this game has longevity built-in. Honestly, I like games like this, and as long as I can get a few weeks fun with some friends, I’ll buy it. If Crystal Dynamics could actually get this to work, and keep working, they could have a hit on their hands. It could, however, end up like Anthem, with the benefit of the Marvel brand. Get the sales, apologize for the lack of gameplay later and count the money. Hell, that’s what the rest of those games did.
Let’s hope I’m wrong. What do you think of the Marvel’s Avengers Game overview? Does it look like something for you or not? Let us know in the usual spot below.
