Marvel’s Nova series is described as a blend of Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek according to exec Brad Winderbaum. Winderbuam appeared on the Phase Zero podcast and talked about the currently in development series.
“Nova is in development right now, but we are developing more than we make. This is the new Marvel,” Winderbaum revealed, hinting at a more cautious and deliberate approach in the studio’s content creation. “We should talk about this. At Marvel, everything has a spotlight on it. We love Nova, we want to get it right.”
“So yeah, it’s in development, we have a few things in development,” Winderbaum continued. “We aren’t going to go on a show until we’re happy with the pilot, happy with the bible.”
“With regards to covering cosmic stories on Disney+, I’ve been really inspired by what Star Trek has been doing over the last few years. That’s why we hired Terry Matalas to do VisionQuest with us.”
“The Nova that’s being developed right now, it’s an amazing ensemble piece. I shouldn’t say too much, but it’s like a great case of characters that’s got shades of Trek , shades of Battlestar Galactica.”

It sounds interesting to me. However, this also sounds big budget. Set in space, spaceships, a hero that can fly through space, etc. Marvel/Disney in general are currently seemingly reducing the budget of their Disney+ shows to be more sustainable. could that be an issue that prevents Nova from being greenlit? I guess we will just have to wait and see. When Marvel has a script they like, which they think they can make on budget, I guess it may happen.
Until then, Nova remains in development only. So we shall have to wait for more information.
What do you think as Marvel’s Nova series is described as a blend of Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek by Brad Winderbaum? Thoughts below as usual.
