Original Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn confirms he has a Kick-Ass reboot in development and teases his new movie Argylle. Vaughn’s first big hit was as director of the original Kick-Ass and it’s honeslty one of my favorite superhero movies of the last 20 years. The sequel? Well, it was watchable. However, it wasn’t really anywhere near as good as the original. Maybe because Vaughn wasn’t directing?
Those OG Kick-Ass stars are all far too old to be playing these characters again (as youngsters). Ergo, there is a Kick-Ass reboot coming from Vaughn. Speaking with THR recently Vaughn talked a little about this reboot.
“Kick-Ass sort of changed people’s perception of what a superhero film is at that time. So we’ll be doing it again. So it’s none of the characters from the other Kick-Ass,” he said. “We’d like to bring them back after the reboot. This reboot is just going off on a tangent that I can’t really talk about now. But it’s fun.”
Bringing the old stars back after the reboot would suggest a sequel is planned. It may also suggest that this reboot is set in the same universe as the original movie. Vaughn is obviously playing coy with the details, so we will have to wait and see. As for when that might happen? It may be a while.

Vaughn’s next movie released is Argylle which he describes as a meta spy thriller. That could be seen as too close to what Kingsman was. However, Vaughn describes how Argylle is a very different concept.
“We wanted to do something very meta,” he said. “I just loved the idea of what would happen if a wizard went to J.K. Rowling in book three and said, ‘You know what? Wizards are real. Hogwarts is real. I’m real. I’m going to show you what it’s really like,’ and going on an adventure.
“We thought, ‘We’ll do that with spies,’” he continued while describing the film. “So Elly Conway, I think, in real life will become a J.K. Rowling of spy movies, of spy novels.”
Argylle stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell, Dua Lipa and more. That’s a tasty cast right there, I think I’ll have to give it a look. As for Kick-Ass, Vaughn doesn’t confirm in the interview when he plans to make it. However, his next movie after Argylle is set to be Kingsman 3, so not for a while yet at least.
