In a recent interview Michael Waldron struggles with questions about whether he will direct Marvel’s Nova movie and who he may cast to star. It was revealed by trades that Waldron was indeed writing and developing a Nova film for Marvel Studios, as had been rumored. Waldron has previous worked with Marvel as a writer, I doubt many fans thought of him also directing the film.
Yet, given Waldron’s inability to say much below, you get the feeling he is in the running and doesn’t want to jinx it.
Speaking with Variety, Waldron was asked whether Nova will be his first chance at directing a Marvel film?
“I don’t even know what I can say as an answer to this question without my computer just catching on fire. But I love the character of Nova. I love Rich Ryder, and I’ve gotten to work at Marvel with a bunch of great filmmakers. I worked so closely with Sam Raimi and learned so much from him.”
“He is the biggest influence for me as a filmmaker; everything on “Chad Powers” is filtered through Sam, because watching how he did it was my film school. So, to get to write and direct a movie for Marvel would be a dream come true. I hope it gets to happen.”

Asked of he’s thought about how to get Chad Powers star Glen Powel cast in Nova?
“These are the questions to be hypothetically asking someone who was hypothetically directing the movie. But that person, if they wanted to hold on to that job, should not answer those questions.”
It certainly sounds like Waldron is in the running to direct his first Marvel movie. Understandably he does not want to risk that opportunity by answering questions and it’s not his fault he’s asked this directly by a trade.
I have no idea whether that would be a good move or not? I guess we will find out if and when Nova gets released. It certainly won’t be until at least 2029.
Leave any thoughts you have below on Michael Waldron possibly directing Nova.
