Based on the New York Times’s best-selling young adult novel, Elsie Fisher and Amiah Miller star as close friends to the end in My Best Friend’s Exorcism.

Plenty of exorcism films out there are frightening, but this film blends comedy, scares, and 1980s nostalgia perfectly.

Here is the official synopsis:

Surviving the teenage years isn’t easy, especially when you’re possessed by a demon. It’s 1988, and best friends Abby (Elsie Fisher) and Gretchen (Amiah Miller) are navigating boys, pop culture, and a paranormal force clinging to Gretchen like a pair of neon legwarmers. With assistance from overly confident mall exorcist Christian Lemon (Christopher Lowell), Abby is determined to compel the demon back to the pits of hell—if it doesn’t kill Gretchen first. At turns horrifying and hilarious, My Best Friend’s Exorcism pays homage to 1980s pop culture with a totally timeless tale of terror and true friendship. Based on Grady Hendrix’s best-selling novel.

It also stars Cathy Ang (And Just Like That…, Over the Moon), Rachel Ogechi Kanu (Cheer for Your Life), and Christopher Lowell (GLOW, Promising Young Woman). Damon Thomas (Killing Eve, Penny Dreadful) is directed from the screenplay adaptation by Jenna Lamia (Good Girls, Awkward) based on the novel by Hendrix (Satanic Panic).

LRM Online’s Gig Patta spoke with actresses Elsie Fisher and Amiah Miller for the film. We talked about being best friends, the novel, and the exorcism itself.

Elsie Fisher is a breakout star in Bo Burnham’s comedy-drama Eighth Grade in 2018, in which she earned a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress—Motion Picture Comedy or Musical. Also, she is known for voicing Agnes in Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2, Masha in Masha and the Bear, and Parker Needler in The Addams Family. In 2019, she appeared in the main role of Joy Wilkes in the second season of Hulu’s Castle Rock.

Amiah Miller starred in the 2017’s film War for the Planet of the Apes as Nova. Also, she appeared in the films Lights Out, Trafficked, House by the Lake, Anastacia: Once Upon a Time, and The Water Man. She appeared on television in Henry Danger, Richie Rich, and MacGyver series.

My Best Friend’s Exorcism is now streaming on Prime Video today.
