After SDCC this weekend some officially revealed Namor details from Wakanda Forever confirm that there’s no Atlantis. There were rumors a while back that Namor and his people would instead by from a mythical Aztec culture rather than the European myth of Atlantis.
The official character description for Namor is as follows:
The ruler of Tlālōcān, an ancient civilization hidden in the depths of the ocean. Namor will stop at nothing to protect his people.
As per Wiki on Tlālōcān.
Tlālōcān is described in several Aztec codices as a Paradise, ruled over by the rain deity Tlālōc. It absorbed those who died through drowning or lightning, or as a consequence of diseases associated with the rain deity. Tlālōcān has also been recognized in certain wall paintings of the much earlier Teotihuacan culture. Among modern Nahua-speaking peoples of the Gulf Coast, Tlālōcān survives as an all-encompassing concept embracing the subterranean world and its denizens.

Honestly I think this is a great idea for a few different reasons. For one it allows us to look at non-European myths for once, which Hollywood has rarely ever done before. Secondly I think this differentiates Namor with DC’s Aquaman which was out first and used the Atlantis mythology.
Atlantis is as made up a place as Tlālōcān after all. I may not have been a Namor expert back in the comic days. However, there was nothing in the characters that would make a jot of difference by changing this to Tlālōcān in my opinion. So far, the little glimpses we have had of the underwater scenes are very pretty looking. It’s going to make Wakanda Forever a very interesting and intriguing film. I kinda just wish we still had Chad Boseman here with us to be a part of it.
What do you think as officially revealed Namor details from Wakanda Forever confirm that there’s no Atlantis? Are you positive about this change like I am, or not? Thoughts below, or on Discord as always if you can.
