You may recall last year, news that Netflix was bringing the power of early ’90s anime Neon Genesis Evangelion to its platform. The original series is beloved to many anime fans for a reason. The anime basically helped galvanize a resurgence in anime as fans wanted more of this deconstructive action sci-fi drama, and creators plugged away to give fans the next new classic.
If you’ve seen anime, then you are definitely familiar with subs and dubs. Some people have strict preferences and prefer to watch anime with the subtitles on. Some people just like the natural and original voice cast. The caveat with that is your eyes better be fixed to the screen when watching or you may miss a fair bit of information. So to make anime easily watchable to foreign audiences, production houses will dub over the original voice talent with new American voiceover.
Sometimes the effects aren’t what the creators intended and the voice over may sound too accented and wonky. That was not the case when Neon Genesis Evangelion received its American voiceover. The cast of American talent included Spike Spencer, Allison Keith, Amanda Winn Lee, and Tiffany Grant.

Prior fans looking to see the series debut on Netflix may have to adjust their ears since Netflix has decided to forgo using any of the original voice talent. Netflix is, in fact, redubbing the previous dub with all new American voice actors. This may not sit well with fans of the series. Amanda Winn Lee has clarified via Twitter she and the rest of the original American dubs crew are out. Read her Tweet below.
FYI Not only were our roles recast in Evangelion, but they never had any intention of even auditioning us in the first place. So stop wondering. No, Spike, Tiffany, Allison, and I are not in it.
