Did you even know that America’s Funniest Videos was still around? I didn’t either. As a kid, I had fond memories watching it with my parents with America’s dad Bob Saget at the helm as host, and following him, I remember Tom Bergeron taking over as host, but I didn’t realize how long he’d taken over and that it continued to this day with Alfonso Ribeiro in the driver’s seat.
Well, the show is apparently in its 29th season, and ABC has just renewed it for two more seasons of the comedy show, but that isn’t the interesting part. In addition to that series, they have also ordered a new similar comedy show called Videos After Dark. The series is set to be hosted by Bob Saget in a 10 pm time slot next year.
Unlike AFV, Videos After Dark will be adult-themed and will feature clips dug up by the AFV team over the years — clips that would never fly on the long-running family show. I’m sure we can expect the commentary from Bob Saget to be fittingly lewd and crude as well — well, as lewd and crude as you can get on ABC. This isn’t cable, after all.
“AFV has been a fixture in households across America for decades, and we are so happy that this show still resonates,” said Rob Mills, ABC’s senior VP of alternative, late-night and specials. “And now the generation that grew up with the hilarious Bob Saget as the host of AFV is old enough to stay up past 10 p.m. to see him on Videos After Dark.”
