Some new images have been released showing the Tanchico locale from The Wheel of Time Season 3 which premieres March 13. The images were shared exclusively by Nerdist, but have since been retweeted by the official Wheel of Time X account. I have also added one of the images to the header above showing Matt/Min in ‘costume’. Season 3 will see the main cast break off in three separate directions with differing goals. Rand, Moiraine and Egwene are all off to the Aiel Waste, Perrin is off back home to the Two Rivers and Nynaeve, Elayne, Matt and Min are in Tanchico. Tanchico is a city we have not yet been to in the TV series. I won’t add any spoilers here. I’ll just say Tanchico is a rough, dangerous place compared to some of the cities they’ve been in so far.

There are some differences here already to the plot of The Shadow Rising, the book being mostly adapted here. (Don’t worry, I’ll be careful.) Matt was with Rand and not the girls in the books. It is Matt’s story that has changed the most, due to various factors, from the books. It’ll be interesting to see how this is handled in the TV series. I can see benefits and some potential issues compared to the book narrative.
I could hazard a guess at some of the other new characters seen in these images but I won’t do so. I’m really looking forward to Season 3 after a huge upswing in Season 2. I’m especially excited because this was the book that truly made me a fan of the series when I first read them.
