Another rumor involving the Marvel Cinematic Universe made its way around the movie news world today. Today’s scuttlebutt again comes from insider Daniel Richtman and has Leonardo Dicaprio attached to it. Richtman claims the Oscar-winning actor is in talks for a role in the Sorcerer Supreme’s sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Perhaps the most interesting part of the rumor is that Richtman claims DeCaprio has discussed appearing in the film as Spider-Man from another earth. Some of you may be aware that DiCaprio was in the running for the role of Spider-Man back in the 90s. The now-defunct project that would have seen James Cameron step into the superhero genre.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently filming and is directed by Sam Raimi. A man who knows a thing or three about superhero films. Raimi directed the Spider-Man trilogy which starred Tobey Maguire in the role of the teenage web-slinger.

I wouldn’t really have an issue with this idea, assuming it turns out to be true. However, I think there are better ways to use the talents and star power of someone like DiCaprio. A prominent villain, an alternate universe Iron Man (Tom Cruise has been the subject of rumors involving him as a replacement Iron Man).
I just hope official word, one way or the other, on these multiple Spider-Men rumors comes soon. If I had to bet, I would say Maguire and Garfield will probably show up in Spider-Man 3. To what extent is difficult to say.
