Delayed, as I hadn’t watched till this weekend, here’s my Peacemaker Season 2 E02/E03 review and its both Meh and Yeah. This is a SPOILER FREE review, where possible, so lets get to it.
Episode 2 – The Bird Blindness One
This second episode for me didn’t work all that well. It feels like we do move on from the opening episode, but nothing much happens to the leads. Instead, episode 2 seems to entirely centre around an action set piece in the close of the show. Before this, most of the episode seems to be setting up a comedic moment in that set piece. Aka – Bird Blindness.
Now, don’t get me wrong, when the set up paid off, I genuinely laughed and I enjoyed the set piece. I guess, I just think we could have some more from the main characters and less between Bird Blind dude and Economos. Apart from a drunken party and a chat between Chris and Harcourt, there really was only a bit of set up for the following episode.
I thought the overall quality of that third episode far superior, overall.
GRADE: C+
Saved by the finale, which was good but spent too much time setting up 1, good, joke. Will be remembered for the final 10 minutes and nothing else.
Episode 3 – The Best One So Far
I really enjoyed this episode, but I’ll try not to get into the weeds. The plot revolved around Chris in the alt-world taking the place of the now deceased Chris. However, what impressed me most was some subtle teases that this world is hardly a paradise compared to Chris’s version of Earth.
Sure, he gets to do some heroics and the people all love him, but what is under the surface? What kind of pills was the alt-Chris addicted to? Did Chris just blow up the ‘freedom fighters’ as opposed to the ‘terrorists’? Is the reason Chris’s dad is so happy here, that he has no reason to be his usual racist self, due to…. Anyway, Lets see how it plays out.
Rick Flagg Jr. showing back up was great, as was the very different alt-Flagg. I also think viewers will notice massive changes in this Harcourt’s personality also.
As for Chris’s action scene? One of the best of both seasons for me. It was hot so well and the fact he was in civvies with weapons was pretty cool. You definitely get the impression that the deceased Chris would not have taken that risk, a plastic hero if you will.
Excellent.
GRADE: A
Genuinely fun from beginning to end, some proper twists coming, show not tell. Really the best episode so far of Season 2.
