Peacemaker Season 2 E06 Review – The Cat Out The Bag [SPOILERS]

Folks here's my Peacemaker Season 2 E06 review and this is the one where the cat is finally out the bag for our characters and the audience.

Folks here’s my Peacemaker Season 2 E06 review and this is the one where the cat is finally out the bag for our characters and the audience. I do normally make these spoiler free reviews. However, this week, I think it’s tricky to get into what I liked or any criticisms I have without getting into the big reveal.

With that,

**Episode 6 SPOILERS Below**

Last week in my predictions section we discussed the obvious signs that Chris’s ideal Earth was actually a Fascist/Nazi state. As we expected, this week that came to light for both our characters and the audience.

It had been set up, but I’m guessing there will still be some audience members who didn’t catch those hints, hence why I’m spoiler tagging my review this week.

What I Liked

I haven’t even checked the runtime for Episode 6 as a type this. However, it felt to me like a shorter episode with a very clear narrative. Have everyone find out the same information at a round the same time, and leave us on a cliff-hanger as to what happens next. I would say Episode 6 does what it’s supposed to and does it’s job well. However, I checked back and the runtime seems about average for the series so far, so it must have been well paced.

I do like how quickly the likes of Harcourt picked up on the issue compared to Chris who has spent a lot of time there. It’s not a critique of Chris’s racist upbringing per se, but more of a critique on his observational skills compared to an intelligence officer like Harcourt.

However, the best thing about this episode was far and away Adrian going to find his alt-world self. So well done for pure comedy value and Adrian is one of my favourite characters in this show. The fact his alt-self is not a fascist and therefore a mortal enemy of Peacemaker just seems to fit.

We are left in this episode with Ad’s being literally chased by a lynch mob of suburbanites down the street. I can’t help but think she’s going to be running towards Adrian’s house and the boys are going to start a fight in Episode 7 to defend her.

It’s going to be tough to see Ad’s in the next few episodes, but that’s drama and therefore good for her character in a story.

Oh and that cameo, (which I won’t spoil just in case), was perfectly placed and appropriate as both a tease and a relevant plot point.

Any Notes?

Yeah, but I think my note is more on how the set up and reveal happened throughout the series. I think 60% of the audience at least knew what to expect going in this week. You have to be pretty unobservant to not notice the lack of POC background characters, even if you didn’t see it pointed out online.

I thought, well if I criticize, then I should suggest an alternative. Is there a way the reveal could have been disguised better, to leave it as more of a shock? My answer is… I can’t think of anything. You spend too much time in the alt-world to get away with it I think in the previous episodes.

Ergo, the best thing I can think of is that have ripped the band aid off earlier. Like show that Nazi/US flag by the end of Episode 2. Therefore, the audience would be aware, but our characters would be none the wiser. I think that may have provided anticipation of the reveal as opposed to the shock/twist of the reveal. Gunn may argue he did spell it out, but as I said above, I reckon 40% of the audience won’t have picked this up. Simply because they don’t pay that kind of attention to drama shows.

I won’t grumble too much though, as for me the emotions I felt would have been the same ither way, it was more anticipation than shock for me already. I’d just have handled it differently myself and that’s fine.

GRADE: A-

Up there with Episode 3 as one of the best episodes of Season 2 so far. Does it’s job and there’s no way you watch this and don’t come back for Episode 7 next week. Solid, but I do want to see the darker side of Nazi/Earth explored more in the final two episodes. If you’re going this way, make it emotionally impactful at the least.

As always, let me know what you thought of my Peacemaker Season 2 E06 review and leave your own Episode 6 thoughts below as always.
