One of the most beloved children book series The Mysterious Benedict Society is finally coming to the screen with Disney+. The two scribes Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi adapted the story from the novel series written by Trenton Lee Stewart.
The book series tell the story of four gifted orphans of Reynie Muldoon, George “Sticky” Washington, Kate Wetherall, and Constance Contraire. These young children form The Mysterious Benedict Society that investigates and uncovers a plot at L.I.V.E. or better known as the Learning Institute for the Very Enlightened.
Disney+ has been stepping up with their original content and trying to connect at all age groups from children to comic book fans to Star Wars fans. They definitely have a hit series that children loved to read, interesting characters, and twisted plots. It helps that it’s based on a popular book that sold over three million copies.
The children cast includes Mystic Inscho, Seeth Carr, Emmy DeOliveira, and Marta Kessler. Of course, the adults have a great chance to steel the show with Kristen Schaal, MaameYaa Boafo, Ryan Hurst, and Tony Hale with his amazing performance as Mr. Benedict and also as Mr. Curtain.
Here’s the official brief synopsis:
After winning a scholarship competition, four gifted orphans are recruited by the peculiar Mr. Benedict for a dangerous mission to save the world from a global crisis known as The Emergency. Reyne, Sticky, Kate, and Constance must infiltrate the mysterious L.I.V.E. Institute to discover the truth behind the crisis. When the headmaster, the sophisticated Dr. Curtain appears to be behind this worldwide panic, the kids of The Mysterious Benedict Society must devise a plan to defeat him.

LRM Online’s Gig Patta had a lengthy discussion with writers and creators Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay. We talked about the adaptation from book to screen, adding more material, keeping the adventures of the book, and hints of what is more to come.
The writing team of Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi have worked together for many years starting the feature film Crazy/Beautiful in 2001 that starred Kirsten Dunst and Jay Hernandez. The pair wrote action comedies such as The Tuxedo, R.I.P.D., Ride Along, and Ride Along 2 to direct action films like Aeon Flux and Clash of the Titans. They even delved into the dramatic storytelling with the intense film Destroyer starring Nicole Kidman. Their next project is with Ride Along 3 pairing the funnymen Kevin Hart and Ice Cube once again.
The Mysterious Benedict Society has its first two episodes now streaming on Disney+ with new episodes available weekly thereafter.
