‘Pimpinero: Blood and Oil’ Premieres At Toronto International Film Festival

Pimpinero: Blood and Oil, directed by Colombian filmmaker Andrés Baiz (Narcos, Griselda), made its debut this week as part of the official selection at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The film stars Grammy and Latin Grammy-winning music icon Juanes, who makes his acting debut alongside a stellar cast that includes Alberto Guerra, Alejandro Speitzer, and Laura Osma.

Baiz, known for his storytelling and keen eye for tension-filled drama, teams up with María Camila Arias (Monos) to co-write this intense narrative, which exposes the dangerous and gritty world of “pimpineros”—gasoline smugglers operating between the deserts of Colombia and Venezuela.

Set against the harsh backdrop of the borderlands, the film follows Juan (played by Alejandro Speitzer), the youngest of three brothers embroiled in the hazardous business of illegal fuel smuggling. As Juan is pulled into working for a dangerous rival, he uncovers the dark underbelly of the trade, leading to tragic consequences. Diana, Juan’s girlfriend, portrayed by Laura Osma, embarks on a journey to uncover the disturbing truths that lie hidden in the shadows of this deadly operation.

Produced by Andrés Baiz in collaboration with Andrés Calderón and Cyndi Rojas, Pimpinero: Blood and Oil offers a gripping portrayal of a lawless world where survival comes at the highest cost. With Baiz’s directorial prowess and an ensemble cast that promises electrifying performances, the film is already generating buzz for its intense, emotionally charged storyline.

Set to release globally on Prime Video later this year, Pimpinero: Blood and Oil will be available to audiences in more than 240 countries and territories, expanding its reach to a worldwide audience.

With Juanes stepping into a new creative role, the film is poised to leave a mark on both the Latin American and global film industries.
