With Star Wars: The Last Jedi fast approaching, we have been getting some leaks and rumors through, little things, nothing major so far, and we can also validate much of those leaks through the likes of LEGO sets and the Vanity Fair Official BTS access article.
However with a film franchise as big as Star Wars you also get a lot of fake rumors or things that cannot be validated until the movie’s release due to the nature of the leaks and the universal appeal of the movies.
One such leak claim has appeared on 4chan and was shared by Screen Geek to spread some details of the movie, supposedly a disgruntled former Lucasfilm marketing person (sounds an awful lot like that one open letter regarding Wonder Woman months ago, and we all know how that turned out) has declared they are leaking real information.
Now first off, we here at LRM don’t buy it, partly due to it appearing first on 4Chan and partly due to some of the information conflicting with details we are far more confident about or have had confirmed already. However……..It would be wrong of us to let anyone else than you be the judge. They’re interesting rumors nonetheless, and are fun to discuss, if nothing else. You can read the details below along with a few comments from me along the way.

SPOILER ALERT!!!

.
The rumors themselves will be in bold, and our commentary will be in normal text. Without further ado, here we go!
• Star Wars: The Last Jedi rough cut has been done for weeks.
• Luke is disenfranchised, Rey convinces him to come back.
• Marketing will make fans assume Luke went to the Dark Side.
• Rey doesn’t go to the Dark Side; she is a reincarnation of the first force user.
This matches an old supposed leak which has pretty much been debunked, but still doesn’t rule this out as being accurate story-wise
• It’s suggested the Millennium Falcon may be destroyed.
Nooooooooo, must be fake, nothing can destroy the Falcon, can it?
• Force ghosts of Yoda and Anakin said to be featured, and also said that they can be “killed”
I have issue with this part, because it seems like such a ridiculous thing to extend death to the already dead. It’s an extra bit of convolution, and convolution has never been a big part of the original trilogy. To quote the Ironborn in Game of Thrones, “What is dead may never die!”
• Benicio Del Toro’s character is said to be named Zenn, a known double crosser. He’s famous on both sides, but Leia mentions how he helped the resistance and even the original rebellion and asks him to help one more time to take down Snoke.
Well, why are the crew all referring to him as DJ? Even though that may not be his real name, why not refer to him simply as Zenn? Why throw in a mislead about his name in the Vanity Fair piece?
• Regarding Snoke, it’s said he has switched bodies before, is well liked around the galaxy and very wealthy. Snoke’s story isn’t finished in this one as there is a cliffhanger following the Luke vs Snoke battle.
I find it hard to buy that Luke and Snoke will be facing off in some sort of battle at the end of this movie and not leaving that for Episode IX. That being said, this could be mirroring the Obi-Wan death scene in A New Hope, paving the way for Rey to overcome him in IX.
The user who supposedly leaked this information also reveals this description:
Luke meets Rey, he tells her how the force [sic] brought her to him. Her parents were scared of her abilities. She is told after a couple scenes that she was born out of necessity, that this balance will continue forever with the force, since the beginning all the way to his dad and now her. Luke trains her but tells her after Snoke is defeated, they will cease to fight and will not continue the Jedi order.
That doesn’t make much sense to me, surely the cycle would simply then continue? So they abandoned her to slavery on a junk planet? Nice!
Luke and Rey have a meditation scene together where she literally walks through a beam of light and she can control everything around her. She can change shapes and warp everything around her. Luke tells her she will be even more powerful than Yoda, and she says who? (this got some chuckles).
Well I would have thought by now Luke would be as powerful as Yoda was, after all Luke was the son of Anakin, whose potential outmatched Yoda’s.
Rey also battles a creature that Luke claims is filled with evil intent and has been threatening the porgs, creatures more in tune with the force than even himself (think penguins on crack). She defeats this creature only to see it become a ghost of Anakin. Basically, Luke has tried to push her emotionally in every direction on the island in order to wake her full potential quickly.
Could have gotten some of this from other leaks, which are still firmly in rumor category.
Luke wants Snoke gone now. It’s made clear that Luke is not happy with what Snoke did to Ben/Kylo Ren and will do anything to make Rey become stronger quickly to destroy him.
We get a flashback with Anakin at Luke’s school and everything is destroyed. Luke sees young Ben/Kylo Ren and says “I don’t want to kill you…but your life is in my hands now”.
Either this is wrong or it’s bad writing, you decide? Also Why can’t Luke destroy Snoke himself?
We learn later Luke knew someone else would come along to balance things out with Ben/Kylo so he left to get answers as to why the Jedi always fail. Luke used the force[sic] to shut R2 down until this person was found. I’m cutting out a ton of details but basically you find out the force [sic] is literally connected to everything and even something like a droid can be aligned to it if it is willed. Rey confronts Luke about his feelings towards the Jedi, his abandonment of his friends and everything that’s happened, and they don’t come to an agreement. He speaks with Yoda, she meditates.
Yoda admits Rey is right, that the Jedi of old were hopeful but arrogant and a the dark side of the force [sic] can’t be the only future (something like that).
Clear as mud then?
Kylo Ren spends the majority of the film with Snoke [sic] Kylo is more unstable and leaves to trace Vader’s life in hopes that he will meet his spiritFrom the way Snoke acts, he doesn’t seem to care much. Also, force ghosts can be destroyed. They’re adding new powers into this film the same way J.J./Kasdan added new abilities in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Rian Johnson did write the film he wanted but there was definitely things they wanted included in this film for future media.
Johnson has gone on record to say how amazed he was at the level of control he had over the script and story, also this part contradicts itself saying Kylo spends much of the story with Snoke, then that he leaves Snoke to go tracing Vader’s life, which is it?
After Finn wakes up, the entire ship they’re on is destroyed. Leia asks him to go find Snoke’s weakness, she’s been told someone has information on how to destroy him, and they’ve arrived at the meeting point (a new planet). No one likes Leia on this planet. Rose leaves with Finn because it’s the last escape pod and her sister trusts Finn. Poe leaves after the ship is destroyed as well with Leia and some remaining resistance. The FO take prisoners. They spend most of the film on the run and meet up with Holdo who immediately butts heads with what they should do next. She wants to have an alliance with the FO, Leia thinks that’s a bad idea and in the meantime, sends Poe to rescue the remaining resistance supporters.
Biggest red flag for me is that Rose apparently is selected to go on a mission because of her engineering skills, and I wonder if the writer of this hadn’t heard that being confirmed and messed up here, but….It’s not a deal breaker I suppose.
Finn goes to Snoke’s home planet and finds a crypt. Think Dracula. Very expensive looking place and a tomb that’s opened. Basically, we learn Snoke has switched bodies and is actually well liked by a lot of races. No one alive has seen his original body. He’s with Rose and Zenn. All of this takes place after they escaped the “affluent planet” and found the kidnapped resistance members who after these past few years have decided to join the FO. Finn appeals to some of them but not all.
Snoke is still such a mystery for all we know he could actually be the reincarnation of Dracula at this point! Right…..Right?
Ok so there you go, massive information dump and I’m sorry for the length of the article. At the end of the day you are the judges on whether you think any of this is accurate or just someone trying to feel important. And If you can’t see why anyone would do this, you should have been there for the prequels leaks and scoops. The amount of supposed sacked Lucasfilm employees leaking information on a daily basis was staggering and by the time the films were released or the scripts leaked, they were all proved to be completely false.
If I’m wrong I’ll hold my hands up, but we here at LRM are putting this in the ‘unlikely’ category for now.
What do you think, are we wrong, could these leaks be genuine? Let us know in the comments below.
