Focus Features released the official poster for the anticipated revenge thriller The Card Counter from Paul Schrader.
The drama has an excellent cast with Oscar Isaac (Ex Machina, Inside Llewyn Davis) as a gambler, who is struggling with his past memories and seek an escape at the card tables. However, a young man enters his life offers redemption and revenge against the one who wronged him in the past.
The cast also includes Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip, Night School), Tye Sheridan (Mud, Ready Player One), and Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man, At Eternity’s Gate).

Director Paul Schrader reunites with his frequent collaborate with Martin Scorsese as executive producer. Schrader knows how to write stories about conflicted protagonists as demonstrated in great films like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Affliction, and First Reformed. So do expect the same with the film The Card Counter.
The poster can be misleading as people may expect an intense film about card games with shapes of playing card suits. The film is a character struggle of a former military man conflicted with his decisions in his past. The latest trailer looks great with terrific performances from everyone, especially from Tiffany Haddish in a rare serious role.
The Card Counter sets to premiere at the Venice Film Festival next month with plenty of anticipation. Luckily for the rest of us, we don’t have to wait long after the world premiere as it lands in theaters on September 10.
