Rampage: Jeffrey Dean Morgan Joins Dwayne Johnson In Ridiculous Video Game Adaptation

While we are most definitely in the age of superhero films, there’s little denying that we’re also in a budding age of kaiju and video game films. On the kaiju side of things, Kong: Skull Island only came out a few weeks back, and it was the second film in its buildup to a Kong v Godzilla flick. Additionally, Pacific Rim: Uprising has just finished its production. On the video game side of things, despite Warcraft and Assassin’s Creed’s failing to hit the mainstream in a big way, we still have the likes of Tomb Raider and the Castlevania TV show on the horizon.

But what if we could have the best of both worlds? That’s where Rampage comes in. This was a video game back in 1980s, though most fans probably most remember it its 1997 sequel, Rampage World Tour. The game allowed you to play as a Godzilla-type kaiju, a King Kong-type kaiju, or a werewolf-type kaiju, and begin smashing buildings, killing civilians, and causing all-around havoc in a big city. A couple years back, it was announced that Dwayne Johnson would be attached to the film, and since then, the project has been making steady moves toits release in April of 2018.

Now, it turns out Johnson won’t be the only testosterone-fueled badass fighting through a city of giant monsters. According to Deadline, The Walking Dead’s and Watchmen’s Jeffrey Dean Morgan has also signed onto the project, joining and ensemble cast that includes Naomie Harris, Malin Akerman, Joe Manganiello, Jake Lacy, Marley Shelton, PJ Byrne, Jack Quaid, Matt Gerald and Breanne Hill.

We currently have few details regarding the plot and characters, but given the casting of Johnson, we can assume it’s only up to him to help take down a trio of monsters in some fictional city. Rampage is set to be directed by San Andreas helmer Brad Peyton, with its script being written by Ryan Engle (Non-Stop).

Rampage is slated to hit theaters on April 20, 2017!
