While platformers used to be a huge part of video games, more recently, we’ve seen the genre take a backseat. Yes, there are plenty of fun 2D platformers that have come courtesy of of indie developers, resulting in games like Shovel Knight or Celeste, but as far as 3D platformers go, it almost feels like the Super Mario franchise is in this game all by itself. Gone are the Banjo-Kazooies, Jak & Daxters, and Ratchet and Clanks, and there didn’t seem to be many signs of a resurgence.
Until now. Industry journalist Colin Moriarty shared some recent details on his Patreon that hinted that one beloved platforming franchise could be making a return as soon as this year.
“We’re going to get a Ratchet and Clank in-between that [Spider-Man 2018 and its sequel) on PlayStation 5,” Moriarty said. “I feel like that’s going to be a launch game, the Ratchet and Clank game that’s long been in development at Insomniac.”
Of course, as with all rumors, be sure to take this with a grain of salt. That being said, if he’s legitimately hearing that this game is coming out this year, then at the very least, it seems plausible that the game is deep in development.
So, what do you think? Is a Ratchet & Clank game the kind of thing that would get you to buy a PS5? Let us know your thoughts down below!
