Tuesday during our Future Picks segment on LRMOnline’s The Comic Source Podcast one of the books we talked about a new comic from Image Comics set to hit shelves in August called Crowded written by Christopher Sebela with art from Ro Stein and Ted Brandt. Via The Hollywood Reporter we have learned that Rebel Wilson has optioned the rights to that book with the goal of starring and producing the movie adaptation.

Wilson will be developing this project and produce it via her Camp Sugar production banner. Also producing will be Oni Entertainment. Sebela is also on board as a consulting producer. Their first task is to look for a writer to adapt the book into a film. Here is the cover for the first issue.
Here is description of the first issue of Crowded via Image Comics Solicitations for August:
SERIES PREMIERE Ten minutes in the future, the world runs on an economy of job shares and apps, including Reapr: a crowdfunding platform to fund assassinations. Charlie Ellison leads a quiet, normal life until she’s suddenly targeted by a million-dollar Reapr campaign. Hunted by all of Los Angeles, Charlie hires Vita, the lowest-rated bodyguard on the Dfend app. As the campaign picks up speed, they’ll have to figure out who wants Charlie dead before the campaign’s 30 days—or their lives—are over. From Eisner-nominated writer CHRISTOPHER SEBELA (Heartthrob, We(l)come Back, Harley Quinn), RO STEIN & TED BRANDT (Captain Marvel, Raven: The Pirate Princess), TRIONA FARRELL (Runaways, Mech Cadet Yu), and CARDINAL RAE (BINGO LOVE, ROSE). COMPARISON TITLES If the near-future implications of social media and technology in Semahn and Corona’s NO. 1 WITH A BULLET had you on the edge of your seat, you’ll love CROWDED.
Currently Wilson is in Prague shooting a film called Jojo Rabbit, a Nazi satire which stars Scarlett Johansson and is directed by Taika Waititi. Camp Sugar is currently in post production on it’s first project The Hustle. This is MGM and Annapurna’s remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels that stars Wilson and Anne Hathaway.
Crowded looks like a very interesting title that is on my list of books to pick up in August. With that said I would like to see more of the story before giving an opinion on how Wilson would fit in this film. What are your thoughts on the book? Let us know in the comment section below!
