Resident Evil and the sequels it has spawned have been staples of the video game industry for the last 20 years with varying degrees of success. Though the original game and its sequel Resident Evil 2 were huge at the time, subsequent sequels barring Resident Evil 4 have been less impressive to the gaming community. Tomorrow see’s the release of a remake of Resident Evil 2 for current generation consoles and it has been generating a lot of interest, especially from those fond of the original title from back in 1998.
This new live-action trailer pays homage both the game and also George A. Romero the godfather of the Zombie genre who actually directed the trailer for the original Resident Evil 2. Whilst it’s short and not in any way representative of the gameplay from this new game, it does do the job of making sure Resident Evil 2 is prominent in the minds of gamers for tomorrow.

I was a fan of the Resident Evil games for a time, and I do recall particularly enjoying Resident Evil 2. Whether that would encourage me to pick up this remake is another question? I’m not sure if the old fashioned gameplay style will prove more frustrating than exhilarating. But I will keep an eye on the word of mouth from other gamers if nothing else.
Time will tell whether gamers will swarm to this game and make it a success for developers Capcom. They have certainly proved over the years they are not afraid to take chances with this franchise despite some of those decisions not working out. If nothing else the game will delve back into its survival horror roots and away from the more action-oriented sequels that came after Resident Evil 2.
