It’s likely very frustrating to work in Hollywood at times. Sure, you have the rush and thrill of making a movie, but when you’re at the negotiation stage with talent, there’s always the risk of a leak to the press, and with that, any leverage one may have over the other. Additionally, if audiences react a certain way to news, it may be an indicator for studios to go a different way.

In the case of Matt Reeves’ The Batman, legit leaks started to pour out during the final stages of auditions between Nicholas Hoult and Robert Pattinson. Of course, the role eventually went to Pattinson, but when the news first hit the trades, he wasn’t too happy.

“When that thing leaked, I was f—ing furious,” Pattinson told Variety. “Everyone was so upset. Everyone was panicking from my team. I sort of thought that had blown up the whole thing.”

Hilariously enough, as it turns out, Pattinson had been sitting next to Christopher McQuarrie, who had leaned over to say hello.

“I was sitting next to Christopher McQuarrie. I’d never met him before. Oh, God! He’d seen me Googling myself for the past hour!” Pattinson tried then went on to explain the situation, to which McQuarrie said, “No worries. I’d probably be doing the same thing.”

Needless to say, Pattinson’s concerned revolved around the studio changing their mind at the last minute. It’d be a stressful time for anyone, really.
