The supposed next Star Wars movie, Rogue Squadron is delayed and Patty Jenkins may make WW3 first! Yesterday we covered the story of a potential Old Republic movie and some things we had heard about potential wrinkles in Rogue Squadron. Since then THR has reported that Rogue Squadron is now officially delayed after all. Now that that information is out there, perhaps we can say a little more?
I want to quote THR directly at points here, because I think wording can be very important.
However, sources say the producers and filmmaking team came to the realization that Jenkins’ schedule and other commitments wouldn’t allow for the window needed to make the movie in 2022.
Thus, Squadron has been taken off the production schedule. The hope is that once Jenkins’ fulfills her previous commitments, she will be able to return to the project.
Ok, so the wording here I am not sure tells the full story. As far as I know Jenkins will be back to make Rogue Squadron. However the wording in the article of it being a hope, perhaps allows for some wiggle room? That being said, I’m not quite sure whether I buy the scheduling conflicts explanation here. Jenkins was always supposed to make WW3 after Rogue Squadron, if that movie now moves up, that’s as a result of Rogue Squadrons delay, not the cause of said delay. However, maybe I’m wrong?

In the article linked above I mentioned that I had a chat with BSL which we decided to keep private for now and it was about Rogue Squadron. Here is what BSL has since posted to social media since the THR story.
Now that it's delayed, it's a good time to mention that the film wasn't just delayed because of Jenkins' schedule, but that production on Rogue Squadron isn't going well behind the scenes. It was never going to be ready to shoot next year. pic.twitter.com/KIEcICr8Pz

We at LRM will back up BSL on this, because we have heard the same. Now, that should not come across as there are majors problems here, or the movie won’t go ahead. The issues we heard about were more around what technically can be achieved in the space of time they had. This is a movie that everyone involved wants to be amazing. I guess I am saying, from what we are hearing from sources, Rogue Squadron is still coming, it just might take a little longer than everyone hoped. However, the end result, may be a lot better for that delay. Fingers crossed.
As for the rest of that story linked above, we do have an update which will publish within the next hour on LRM. So check back for the latest from the best insiders and some contributions of our own.
So Rogue Squadron is delayed, however as far as we are concerned, this will be for the better in the long run and it is still planned. Jenkins might just go and make WW3 first though. Leave any thoughts you have below.
