When Ben Affleck was announced as the next in line to dawn the cape and cowl of The Dark Knight, it was met with mixed reaction. His Bruce Wayne was set to make his debut in Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. He was also supposed to star and direct his own solo Batman film. Unfortunately after his first appearance in BvS, we only saw him briefly in Suicide Squad and Justice League. We never really got to see Affleck shine as Batman.

Now director Matt Reeves is gearing up to pick up where he left off filming the beginning of his Dark Knight trilogy. The Batman will star Robert Pattinson as a younger Bruce Wayne. You would think that this meant that we should all put Affleck’s Batman on the shelf next too other performers like Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, Christian Bale, and others. But we are living in strange times in the DCEU.
The Snyder Cut movement that seemed to be chasing a dream got their wish in an unprecedented move by Warner Bros. and AT&T. Next year on HBO Max we will see the Snyder Cut of Justice League. Now it’s rumored that both companies are also interested in having Affleck return to make his original intended version of the Batman film.
According to We Got This Covered, they have sources saying that Affleck is at least willing to hear out Snyder and is in early talks about possibly shooting some new footage for the upcoming Justice League re-release. While there is no guarantee that it would ever happen, it’s said that he has softened his stance on putting on the batsuit again.

They state that they feel comfortable with their sources because of previous rumblings. It’s the same source that gave them the news about the upcoming Justice League Dark series. As well as the Arrow spinoff for The CW that were both correct.
What an interesting state we find Warner Bros. with their DC properties. We have the confirmed Snyder Cut in the works for next year. We have David Ayer and others beginning their campaign to bring forth the “Ayer Cut” of Suicide Squad. Now the rumblings of a possible Affleck return at least for re-shoots. It’s tragic to think we could have gotten all of these films in theaters if Warner Bros. wouldn’t have over-reacted to the tone of BvS.
