Rupert Friend Teases Cameos And Easter Eggs In 'Thrilling' Obi-Wan Kenobi

Rupert Friend teases cameos and Easter eggs galore in ‘thrilling’ Obi-Wan Kenobi. Friend plays the Grand Inquisitor in Obi-Wan Kenobi. He recently chatted with Hey You Guys, who managed to sneak in a Star Wars question. Friend is under NDA for a few more weeks at least. However he was certainly willing to hype the upcoming Star Wars show.

“If it’s possible to be any more excited thank folks already are, I would be. I think it’s one of the most thrilling additions to the Star Wars canon, I think Ewan McGregor is doing things with that role that is a dream for fans of the original films… We can’t obviously have Alec Guinness back, but I just think Ewan was absolutely born to play that part. But wonderful cameos from people I obviously can’t tell you, Easter eggs galore and… yeah, it’s a thrilling ride.”

Is Obi-Wan Kenobi the most anticipated and hyped Star Wars project since The Force Awakens? I’d say there seems to be more riding on this than any other project since The Last Jedi which divided the fan base and the sequel trilogy faltered. Mando, while well received, was a brand new story, not as encumbered by the lore.

Obi-Wan Kenobi on the other hand is the ‘missing link’ between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope for two of the saga’s most central players. Anakin Skywalker is essentially the lead character of the Star Wars saga, everything revolves around him. By proxy his Master turned enemy Obi-Wan Kenobi is almost on the same level of ‘important characters’.

Cameos and Easter eggs are good, when the correct dosage is applied. However what we really need more than anything from Obi-Wan Kenobi is a great script, and a lovingly made show that feels like a real part of this story and not some shoehorned in money maker. The chance to actually give Ewan McGregor (and Christensen) a better script to work with is enticing. However, there are many pitfalls and traps that the showrunners have to avoid as well.

If Lucasfilm get this right, they are back on a high. If Obi-Wan Kenobi fails among the fans of the PT and OT then I’ll wish it was never made because this chance won’t come again.

What do you think as Rupert Friend teases cameos and Easter eggs galore in ‘thrilling’ Obi-Wan Kenobi? Thoughts below as always.
