Russell Crowe has been cast alongside star Henry Cavill in the upcoming Highlander reboot, as confirmed by the star himself. Crowe is probably playing Ramires, but that has not been revealed officially. The Highlander reboot from director Chad Stahelski has a new home at Amazon MGM and is gearing up to begin production. Cavill was kinda baked into the role from Stahleski’s original pitch, but Crowe is the first piece of casting news outside the lead we’ve had.
The news was broke by Collider, however Crowe himself confirmed it, with no other details on social media later that day.
Crowe, a huge star and the second role cast seems certain to be playing Ramires the Spanish/Egyptian guide for Connor to the world of Immortals. The role was famously played by Scot Sean Connery in the original, whilst the role of the Scotsman Connor went to a Frenchman in Christopher Lambert.

If the reboot follows a similar outline to the original then there really are only 3 major roles. Connor, Ramires and The Kurgan. You’ve also got both love interests. Though, only in roughly half the film each, neither were big roles in the original. Therefore, unless Crowe is playing Kurgan, which seems unlikely, he’s probably Ramires. Deadline do say he’s playing Ramries, but unsure if that’s just good guess work? They cite Collider as their source also. Let’s face it folks, Russell Crowe is Ramires in the Highlander reboot.
I do hope he keeps his native Aussie accent to play Ramires as Connery kept his. The way I see it Immortals live so long, their accents would change over time. I mean as they live entire lifetimes in new places with new languages. Therefore, I wouldn’t think Cavill needs to keep a Scottish accent for the scenes set in current day either. Wonder who will play The Kurgan? I guess we’ll find out soon with filming beginning this September.
What do you think as Russell Crowe will probably play Ramires alongside Henry Cavill in the Highlander reboot?
