It seems that we live in a day and age where second chances seem hard to find. As humans, we all make mistakes. Some of those mistakes unfortunately have long-term consequences that may even last a lifetime. It could come in the form of a prison sentence or unplanned pregnancy to name a few. I use these examples as they are some of what our characters experience in Vertical Entertainment’s Lorelei.
In this film, writer/director Sabrina Doyle introduces us to Wayland, played by Pablo Schreiber, and Dolores, played by Jena Malone. One time high school sweetheart, they now find themselves in very difficult situations. Wayland has just finished a 15-year prison sentence. While Dolores is a single mother of three, all from different men who are not in the picture. Life has now brought them back together. Can they rekindle their relationship with a second chance? How will their past decisions affect their interactions?
Lorelei is Doyle’s feature debut as a director. For this film, she wanted to depict the resilience of hard-up Americans. Their ability to adapt and transform. As well as their big dreams despite their harsh circumstances. Since she isn’t American, she spent a lot of time in Oregon speaking with motorcycle club members, parole workers, former prisoners, and low-income rural area residents. Her research paid off as her characters in Lorelei seem very genuine and relatable.

With the release of Lorelei, LRM Online’s Emmanuel Gomez spoke with first-time director Sabrina Doyle. We talk about her experience as a writer and director in the Northwest. She spends some time praising her lead actors Pablo and Jena. As well as the kids that are involved in the project. Doyle also expands on her theme of second chances. It’s a great conversation.
