In a recent interview Stranger Things actress Sadie Sink talks about her Spider-Man: Brand New Day casting, but won’t say who she’s playing. There has been much speculation about who Sink is playing, from an early Jean Grey rumor to Shathra, so Tobey Maguire Spidey’s daughter. Some set photos and videos have also revealed a few interesting plot details I won’t get into. However, they do not tell us who the character is.

Speaking with EW, Sink explained that whilst everyone gets to see Tom in costume, her character will remain a mystery for the time being.

“Tom can wave at the fans because people know who he is, but then you get a glimpse of me and I’m like a penguin,” Sink says, laughing at the image. “That’ll be the situation for a bit, it seems.”

‘Conversations began with Marvel while she was filming season 5 of Stranger Things, so “not as far back as you would think,” she says. The biggest theory out there from the comic book-loving crowds is that Sink will play the new Jean Grey, the telekinetic and telepathic member of the X-Men, after Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner. “That was happening before I even knew that I would be working on this project,” Sink clarifies of that specific speculation. “I was like, ‘Wait! What are people talking about?’”’

To be fair the early Jean Grey rumors that Jeff Sneider posted were he thought for her casting in the upcoming X-Men reboot film. So when the trades announced she was in Spider-Man: Brand New Day instead it kinda threw everyone off including Sneider. Later on, long after she had been announced, Sneider did say he still had heard Jean Grey, but wasn’t so sure.

I think it’s unlikely at this point, but certainly Sink doesn’t rule that one out here. The only real clue we have is that Sink will appear in Avengers: Secret Wars as well. The latest rumors say a Multiversal character who maybe can control people if I add it all up. However, we are still in the dark for now.
