Slab City, Calif. is one of those places most people never heard of. It is an isolated off-the-grid squatter community in the middle of a desert in Imperial County. Once an abandoned military camp, it now serves as a place where young people don’t want to be found.
For director Kerry Mondragon, he captured the culture and society of Slab City in his pandemic thriller of Tyger Tyger. In this hyperrealistic movie, he focused on the environment as much as he can that brings the authenticity of the underworld, particularly including actual non-actors representing the counterculture with professional actors and storyline.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Tyger Tyger follows a woman named Blake, who while waiting for her test results during a pandemic, robs a pharmacy for life-saving medication, ditches her insolent boyfriend, and makes a deal with a drug addict named Luke, to help distribute the stolen medication in the fringe lands. During the life-or-death adventure, they are chased through the labyrinth of the lawless city by its self-appointed gatekeepers Tammie and Uncle Joe.
The cast includes Dylan Sprouse, Sam Quartin, Eden Brolin, Craig Stark, Max Madsen, and Barbara Palvin.
