Samson | Ruth Du and Justin Alpern on Approach of Dark Comedy and Its Aesthetics

Alice Lee in Samson

Kidnapping schemes never go right. In one way or another, kidnappings always go awry despite all the plans and thoughts into it.

For Samson, two kidnappers will learn the hard way as they kidnap a bickering couple in this dark comedy.

The film stars Alice Lee (My Adventures with Superman, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist), Ryan Dance (Eating Cars, Lost & Found Abroad), Will Brittain (Kong: Skull Island, Everybody Wants Some!!), and Emilio Garcia-Sanchez (The Society, Love in the Time of Corona).

Ruth Du directed the film based on the screenplay written by David Harry Yoon and Du.

Here is the official synopsis:

What starts as a simple lunch between exes turns into a fight for their lives when Emma and Dale are kidnapped by two masked men. Told through a fractured timeline and multiple perspectives, Samson is a modern-day Shakespearean tragedy with a musical number for good measure. Full of surprising twists and turns, as it becomes darker and darker, Samson is not a movie you’ll soon forget.
