Cate Blanchett returns to Santa Barbara International Film Festival for the third time. This year, she was honored with the Outstanding Performer of the Year Award—particularly for her performance in Tár.
The two-time Academy Award-winning actress is nominated for best actress again for Tár. The film festival did not hesitate to recognize her for her career and achievements over the years.
In the tribute ceremony, SBIFF executive director Roger Durling introduced the actress on stage, with the night’s moderator Scott Feinberg, executive director of awards at the Hollywood Reporter.
The two chatted in a packed theater about Blanchett’s career from theater to her film career’s wonderful memories and insights. The pair reminiscence on Blanchett’s past projects, including Elizabeth, Blue Jasmine, and Tár.
She shared many thoughts about her work, including collaborating with filmmakers like Anthony Minghella and Peter Jackson. She touched on her first role in the theater that started her acting life and even took a break from the screen to head up the Sydney Theater Company.
The night ended with Tár director Todd Field on stage to deliver the SBIFF’s Outstanding Performer of the Year Award to Cate Blanchett.
