Shang-Chi Director Destin Daniel Cretton On Pitching At Marvel

Shang-Chi Images Leaks SPOIL A Cameo Appearance

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is due to hit theaters on February 12th, 2021. This will clearly be a movie with a predominantly Asian cast, and frankly I am excited to see what director Destin Daniel Cretton can do with this property.

Cretton recently spoke with Collider about his experience in pitching for this movie and (obviously) being successful in landing the film.

“Yeah, it’s terrifying. I didn’t think I was going to get it, so that helps you feel not as terrified. The process of pitching is like anything. You just go in and speak your heart, and speak what you feel is important, and what you would love to do. And if they respond to that, then that’s going to be a good relationship. If they don’t respond to it, you don’t get the job, and it’s probably good that you don’t get the job.”

Asked if he tried to play it cool when he was told he had the job.

“No. They’re all so warm there. It’s a really warm family. So, it was a lot of hugs, and then it’s just, “Let’s get to work.””

And Cretton must be hard at work on the pre-production phase for this movie as we speak, with a release date of early 2021, Shang-Chi must surely start filming by early next year to be ready in time. Currently Black Widow has just finished filming, whilst Eternals has just begun, both of these films are due in 2020, but Shang-Chi will be the next Marvel movie out the gate after Eternals hits in November of next year.

Marvel must be pretty happy with what Cretton has planned for this movie, let’s hope we fans are also. I just love the idea of the real Mandarin appearing in this movie and I wonder what connections this will have to the rest of the franchise. Mostly though, I absolutely love some kick -ass Kung Fu action, and after the disappointment of Iron Fist, I am hoping this is like Enter the Dragon on steroids.

What do you think of Cretton’s comments and what are your hopes for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings? Leave any thoughts you have in the usual spot below.
