Dan Beecham And Candace Fields Discuss Sharkfest | INTERVIEW

Sharkfest is back and bigger than ever with over twenty five hours of programming on National Geographic. Of course Bertie Gregory takes part in the venture and takes us to  South Africa to find great white sharks. With the help of underwater cinematographer Dan Beecham for Sharks Up Close with Bertie Gregory. Where we get to learn how humans and sharks have learned to live together. While Investigation Shark Attack analyzes what causes them to attack humans with marine biologist Candace Fields.

The Synopsis

This summer, SHARKFEST returns with over 25 hours of hair-raising, shark-infested programming that brings viewers closer than ever to the ocean’s fiercest fish. The fin-credible lineup includes Sharks Up Close, where wildlife filmmaker Bertie Gregory embarks on a daring cage-free dive to capture the raw power and beauty of great whites on film, and JAWS @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story, the authorized documentary marking the 50th anniversary of the film that redefined Hollywood, launched the summer blockbuster, and helped spark a global movement in shark conservation. Other series include Investigation Shark Attack, Super Shark Highway, Shark Quest: Hunt for the Apex Predator and Sharks of the North, with each offering thrilling encounters and cutting-edge science. From awe-inspiring adventures to myth-busting insights, SHARKFEST 2025 is the ultimate deep dive into the science, power and magnificence of these misunderstood predators.

The Synopsis

Bertie heads to South Africa for his most audacious mission yet. The wild waters here are a hotspot for one of the ocean’s most famous and feared predators, the great white shark. Diving in the shallows without a cage, Bertie will attempt to film these huge sharks. By entering their domain, he discovers the challenges they face on our rapidly changing planet.

The Synopsis

Delivering an in-depth look inside the mind of these apex predators, the six-part series explores shark behavior from their unique perspective. An intense forensic investigation at the innovative Shark Headquarters by a panel of scientists analyzes key theories and ultimately dissects each encounter to determine what leads sharks to strike.

With the upcoming hours of Sharkfest I was connected with Dan Beecham And Candace Fields via Zoom to discuss what is the fascination with this big fish of the sea. Fields talked about her work in Investigation Shark Attack and how sharks can confuse humans as prey. While Beecham spoke about how humans have learned to live with sharks in Sharks Up Close with Bertie Gregory and the job as an underwater cinematographer.  

The Sharkfest multiplatform event will air across Nat Geo, Nat Geo WILD, Nat Geo Mundo, Disney Jr. and DisneyXD, and and will stream July 6th on Disney+ and Hulu
