The rumors were true as Shohreh Aghdashloo has been officially announced as playing Elaida in Wheel of Time Season 3, and maybe beyond. We’ve been following this piece of casting since back in Season 2. Aghdashloo was always a fan favourite to play an Aes Sedai role later in the series called Cadsuane. However, after fans were campaigning for that role on her behalf, it did put Aghdashloo in contact with showrunner Rafe Judkins. He teased there was a role he had in mind for the actress.

Since then we had credible rumors that Aghdashloo was actually going to be playing another Aes Sedai who appears earlier in the series, Elaida. I won’t give any details on Elaida as you’ll get the idea in Season 3, releasing March 13.

Amazon Prime has now released some of the cast list and Aghdashloo has been confirmed officially as Elaida. Theoretically, this is a multi season role. However we also know that Amazon is reticent to renew Wheel of Time Season 4 until they see how Season 3 performs. Extremely disappointing given how the show is effectively performing better compared to cost than awful show The Rings of Power, which even Season 2 can’t get cancelled.

So, as said, theoretically Elaida, and therefore Aghdashloo should return for Season 4 and more. However, we will have to wait and see. Maybe Amazon will do a better job at marketing Season 3 than they did with Season 2 especially. Don’t expect to see it everywhere like Rings of Power again though. I do think Season 3 will be the best one yet, but there will be some fans who will have already decided not to return. Sadly Season 1 was weak. Then again, book 1 of the series was weak as well. Sometimes you have to have a bit of patience.
