According to Deadline, veteran actress Sigourney Weaver is in talks for a key role in The Mandalorian and Grogu. This news actually was broken first by insider Jeff Sneider, just to give credit where due. However, it was quickly confirmed more officially by Deadline. Which of course takes off the Barside Buzz I would have been using for this one if they had not.
Here is what the trade had to say.
‘Sigourney Weaver is in talks to return to space for a key role in the next Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu. Jon Favreau is directing the film as well as producing alongside Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni. Production is slated to start later this year in advance of an expected release date of May 22, 2026.’
‘Plot details are unknown as well who Weaver will be playing. Lucasfilm had no comment.’

Just to be clear Sneider had no idea who Weaver is supposed to play either. Since we have no idea what the plot of this movie will be there’s really only two characters we can be sure will appear. You may expect some side characters from The Mandalorian to show up, however, they may not? Season 3 of Mando saw the bounty hunting pair kind of finish previous plots and start afresh. Therefore, the movie could have a completely new cast of side characters.
Sadly we know there will be no Carl Weathers after his passing recently. Weathers would have beeen my hope for a returning character, was he still with us. I do wonder if they will address his character Greef Karga passing away? He and Mando were good friends. My second choice would be getting Bill Burr back as Mayfield. However, we really have no idea for now whether that is a possibility.
Will Weaver be an ally for Mando and Grogu, or a villain? I guess we will just have to wait and see. Once filming begins, so will the rumors and leaks.
