There is no lack of enthusiasm surrounding the recently-released Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. More than I’ve heard in a good-ass while, there seems to be a lot of discussion around the potential for the future of this franchise — which is a nice contrast with fandom’s usual pattern of hoping studios would just leave the franchises alone.
Of course, we have plenty of content headed our way in the future. In addition to a Spider-Verse sequel, we’ll also be getting a spin-off that will feature Gwen Stacy, Cindy Moon, and Jessica Drew — three characters who have taken on the spider-moniker in one way or another. But you know which characters have not had any spin-off discussion? Spider-Ham, Spider-Man Noir, and Peni Parker. We’re here to talk about the first of those three.

Actor John Mulaney, who voices the hamslinger (does that sound dirty?), recently spoke with Variety where he pitches the perfect take on a Peter Porker-centric flick:
“[Spider-Ham] is a fun guy who is capable of great rage. To go see him back at the Daily [B]eagle — I could see a Watergate-like story at the Beagle where he’s both a reporter and Spider-Ham by night…this would be more like The Post or All The President’s Men or Spotlight, but we’d make it family friendly. Lots of bacon jokes, or, ‘that’s hamfisted.'”
It sounds like a very LEGO Movie approach, and so long as the writing stays strong, I think this is something I’d be okay seeing more of — though I’m not sure it’d be making those big box-office bucks. At this point, it’s clear the money is in a direct sequel and a Spider-Gwen spin-off, but you never know, right? How crazy would it be if we got a freakin’ Spider-Ham movie? I kinda wanna live in that universe…
