Star Wars: Jon Favreau Confirms This Fan-Favorite Droid Is In The Mandalorian

Oh, how I miss the days of yesteryear. Back when I was in elementary school and used to pore over all Star Wars companion guides all my friends brought to school. It’s through many of those companions that we had a chance to really latch onto characters like Boba Fett, but it’s also how random droids like R5-D4 managed to somehow end up as named characters, in spite of their minimal contribution to the story.

Even today, I don’t remember when knowledge of the red astromech droid first came to me, but I’ve since then had a soft spot for the guy, and I know I’m not alone. Pretty much every major Star Wars fan knows who this guy is and it was recently retconned that his “bad motivator” displayed in A New Hope was just a ruse so that Luke’s Uncle could buy R2-D2 instead. Clearly, there was enough of an audience for the character for him to get his own story in the From a Certain Point Of View compilation released in 2017.

Now, it looks like the droid will be making an appearance in the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, as teased by executive producer Jon Favreau.

Of course, it has to be mentioned that the post has no caption. For all we know, this can mean the droid will only appear in the background of a shot and could possibly be just the smallest of Easter eggs. That being said, it’s an Easter egg that could have all sorts of other implications, tying the story to the larger universe, for better or worse.
