Director of the upcoming movie, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy talks briefly about the Rey Sequel, mentions a Jedi Academy and building Rey’s next adventure. You can catch the full video below from Sirius XM. However, if you’d prefer to just catch the highlights we’ve got you covered with a transcript.

Taking about the movie she will direct, the as yet untitled Rey Skywalker Sequel movie, Obaid-Chinoy said;

“For me, the heart of it, is Daisy Ridley, Rey Skywalker. What’s her story, and taking her on an adventure to a Jedi Academy. Sort of creating a world that is a natural dovetail to the story that we’ve seen her go through that last three Episodes.”

Obaid-Chinoy went on to praise everyone she’s been working with at Lucasfilm, including Kathleen Kennedy. The director also said she has had chats with J.J. Abrams (ignore everything he said), George Lucas (ignore half what he said), and Dave Filoni (ignore a third of what he says). Before concluding;

“The team is really taking time to make sure we do justice to telling the story of Daisy. I think she stands for something. We’ve seen this incredible journey she went through in 7,8 and 9 and so now it’s onto the next adventure. How do we create a world and the adventure that we take her on?”

I think that’s the first official mention we have had yet of a Jedi Academy. The initial announcement saw KK declare it would cover a New Jedi Order period. Ergo, the assumption was that Rey has a school, and we’ve heard some rumors. However, definitely not had Jedi Academy mentioned by an official source till now.

Also, does anyone kinda think that the way Obaid-Chinoy talks about previous Episodes, that this one might end up being called Episode X? There’s been a few rumors gone that way, but nothing really solid either way for now. So far, rumor is the movie will go into production later this year, but until it does who knows for sure?
