They don’t even wait for the damn books to come out anymore before they start adapting them. Stephen King already has a billion adaptations to his name, but that hasn’t stopped Hollywood from constantly picking up his latest stories and putting them up for visual consumption. The latest is The Outsider, and it’s based on the novel that hit last year.
This is a book that’s been on my to-read list since before it came out, but I still haven’t gotten around to it yet, so I can’t say whether or not it looks like a solid adaptation. All I can say is that it looks like a damn good mystery thriller that’s a mix of Stephen King with a bit of David Fincher-esque flavor.
Jason Bateman, who recently won an Emmy for his directing work on Ozark is returning to the director’s chair for two episodes, in addition to being an executive producer and actor on the show.
Below is the official synopsis to The Outsider
“The 10-episode series follows police detective Ralph Anderson (Ben Mendelsohn), as he sets out to investigate the mutilated body of 11-year-old Frankie Peterson found in the Georgia woods. The mysterious circumstances surrounding this horrifying crime leads Ralph, still grieving the recent death of his own son, to bring in unorthodox private investigator Holly Gibney (Cynthia Erivo), whose uncanny abilities he hopes will help explain the unexplainable.”
