While I feel like Batman v Superman tends to get a lot of undue hate, Suicide Squad is a film where I can understand the hate. Sure, I enjoyed it quite a bit while watching, but it was still a big mess of a movie. On one hand you had a stupid character in Amanda Waller, and a nonsensical plan, and on the other, you have one of the weakest villains known to mankind in Enchantress.
It seemed like a waste to have Enchantress being the villain when you had one perfectly good Joker already crowding the plot of the flick. Even worse than the fact that he wasn’t the main villain is that he was woefully underutilized even as a side character. If we’re to believe what Jared Leto had to say, they seemed to have left a lot of his scenes on the cutting room floor.
But what if they HAD taken advantage of Leto’s joker? What if they had actually done what many thought the would do, and made him the lead villain of the film? The 2014 animated film Batman: Assault on Arkham saw the Squad breaking in to Arkham Asylum and dealing more with the Joker, and it seemed like that could be a great direction to go. If they had taken that approach, imagine how much more interesting it could have been.
Well, one fan has taken it upon himself of bringing that vision to life. Sort of. Youtuber Taj Holmes took footage from the film to cut together another trailer — one with Joker actually being utilized as the big bad of the film. Plus, unlike the second two trailers we got for Suicide Squad, this one is considerably darker, showing a more menacing, grounded side to this whole ordeal.
Now, we can only sit back and imagine what could have been. Darn.
