Surge of Power: Where There’s Smoke | Vincent Roth on Comic Book Movies, 20-Year Franchise, and Nichelle Nichols

It has been 20 years since one of the few gay superheroes on screen with Surge of Power: Where There’s Smoke, marking the fifth film in this franchise.

Vincent Roth created the Surge of Power franchise, wrote the film stories, and starred as the title character in every film.

In this latest franchise installment, the superhero Surge must now face an incoming threat as he seeks out other superheroes to form a team.

In Surge of Power: Where There’s Smoke, Nichelle Nichols (Star Trek: The Original Series) is back in one of the final performances of her career. Robert Picardo (Star Trek: Voyager), Joseph Culp (Fantastic Four), Shannon Farnon (Super Friends), Michael Gray (SHAZAM!), and Bruce Vilanch (Hollywood Squares) return to the franchise. They are joined with new cast members as either friends or foe, including Tim Russ (Star Trek: Voyager), Sam J. Jones (Flash Gordon), and John Davey (SHAZAM!).

Here is the official description:

Off the heels of Surge of Dawn delving further into the devious activities of The Council, Surge has his next team up with guest superhero, The Smoke. Audiences are already familiar with Surge, Omen, MAVIS, Will E. Bee and some members of The Council from the Surge of Power movies but who is Falling Apple and what is her role in The Council’s evil scheme? Struggling from a lifetime of trauma, Falling Apple has discarded her civilian life as Chai Appuru for a gritty life full of anger and resentment as she seeks to exact revenge on those she believes killed her father when she was a child, putting the entire Chicago area in peril.

Is Falling Apple’s agenda aligned with The Council’s goals? Watch as Omen guides Surge in recruiting more “Champions” to form a superhero team to face The Council’s threat.
