Over the past couple years, Ben Affleck’s involvement in the DC Extended Universe beyond Justice League has been put to question. Ever since Batman v Superman hit, Affleck seemed like he’s been slowly shuffling toward the exit, and it’s easy to understand why. After climbing back up from the critical pit of hell, the last thing he’d want was to have to climb out again.
For a ridiculous amount of time, it’s still been a big question: Will Affleck actually ever play the Caped Crusader again? A new report from TheWrap seems to indicate that he will be stepping way — but not for the reasons you may think.

As we reported last week, Affleck just checked himself into rehab, and as such, it seems likely that the actor’s insurance costs will go through the roof, making it not preferable for the studio to have him on the next film. An attorney who specializes in insurance and bond products went on to say that the deductible for his insurance may be the budget of the entire film.
Should a Justice League sequel happen, it could very well drive the budget for the film up to a ridiculous $450 million, even before marketing costs. This is definitely unfortunate, especially since Affleck is taking active measures to help with his alcoholism, but I guess that’s just the reality of the business.
Perhaps this will force Warner Bros.’ hand to finally take the dive and hire a new Bats.
