You won’t be able to binge The Boys Season 2 one day one.
Netflix changed the way we watched television. All of a sudden, we had hundreds of episodes of content at our fingertips. And we could watch them one after another without lifting a finger or paying tens of dollars for full seasons. So, when they started releasing their original shows, it made sense for them to test out the binging model. And, in the years since then, it’s been one of their trademark methods of series releases, one that other streamers mimicked.
But times have changed. Streamers are starting to see a real benefit to other release models. Case-in-point, episodic releases lead to more prolonged conversations online. Of course, the downside is that audiences have a lot less to get hooked with at the start, and have to remember more details week to week. Regardless, we’ve seen more streamers experiment with a modified week-to-week model, and Amazon looks to be doing that again with The Boys Season 2.

Sadly, you will not be able to binge the entire show in just one sitting. But luckily, they are splitting the difference here. The show will release the first three episodes of Season 2 followed by a weekly release for the remaining episodes. Here’s the schedule.
Episodes 1-3: September 4
Episode 4: September 11
Episode 5: September 18
Episode 6: September 25
Episode 7: October 2
Episode 8: October 9
Personally, I think this is a fantastic release strategy. While I understand the appeal of binging, to me, it usually only pays off at the beginning, when I’m trying to get hooked into a show. From there, it’s usually harder for me to push forward if it’s not weekly. Additionally, this allows the show to stay present in the pop culture zeitgeist for longer.
So, it could be the best of both worlds. Viewers discuss longer and streamers get to milk their franchise a bit more. At least that’s the hope.
