Filmmaker Chris Columbus has been big name in the business for years. Before today, he was the dude who made Harry Potter, and before that, he was the dude who made Home Alone, and before that, he was the dude who wrote Gremlins and The Goonies. More recently, he’s produced the Netflix original film The Christmas Chronicles, which managed to rack up 20 million views in its first seven days.
It’s on the heels of that big success of a film that Deadline is reporting the growing relationship between Columbus and Netflix. According to the outlet, the filmmaker has inked a multi-year first-look deal with the streaming giant, meaning that Netflix will get first dibs on any movie Columbus or his partners want to make.

Given how well their first endeavor has gone, it’s no wonder Netflix is looking to double down on their professional relationship with Columbus. This deal further drives home their desire to lock down big Hollywood talent to their platform — a strategy that has seemingly served them well in 2018, a year that has seen their biggest film output ever.
