Wanna listen to the Rhythm of War audiobook?
As you can probably tell from author Brandon Sanderson’s strategy, they’re not afraid to give away stuff for free. In fact, that’s been Sanderson’s strategy for years. I recall back when ebooks were new, Sanderson was giving away copies of Mistborn like it was no big deal. For the past couple of months, his publisher, Tor, has been pushing out weekly chapters for his next big novel, Rhythm of War. As the next installment of The Stormlight Archive, it’s quite the big deal. But don’t think their generosity would end there.
Over the past several days, we’ve also seen full chapters of the audiobook get posted on Brandon Sanderson’s YouTube channel. More specifically, we’ve seen the Prologue and Chapter One get posted. However, fans of Sanderson may have noticed something a big unexpected pop up on the YouTube channel this morning. Many of us woke up to not one, not two, but sixteen total chapters now available.

I’m not gonna lie. All of these Rhythm of War audiobook chapters going live at once definitely feels like one big accident. But, accident or not, Brandon Sanderson took to Twitter to make the whole thing official.

So, if the pandemic has left your wallet feeling empty and sad, and you’re still hankering for some epic fantasy, this isn’t the worst place to go. No, I doubt the entire book will actually be available for free, but given the size of Rhythm of War, the entertainment you’ll get from all the free uploads will at least be comparable in length to your average book. Better than nothing, right?
All in all, the first sixteen chapters make up over ten hours of content, so it’s nothing to sneeze at! At the very least, it’ll keep you occupied until the full twelve hundred-page tome bounds into bookstores November 17.
