The latest Captain America: Brave New World Barside Buzz is that The Leader will be practical and not CGI. As you may know, Samuel Sterns, played by Tim Blake Nelson first appeared in The Incredible Hulk. In that movie an accident with Bruce Banner’s blood samples saw Sterns doused with the a quantity on top of his head. In the movie we see some growth begin in Sterns forehead, teasing an eventual turn into The Leader.
However, that was 15 years ago. Since then there has been no sign of Nelson, nor The Leader. He is back though in Captain America: Brave New World and reportedly still working for General turned President, Ross.
Regular MCU insider MTTSH now claims on Instagram that The Leader will be realized using practical effects and not CGI.
The post reads as below:
“The Leader will be practical in Captain America: Brave New World. No CGI.”

You’d have to say this makes a lot of sense. There’s no reason Marvel has to go down a comic accurate appearance here. For a start Sterns probably won’t have grown tiny like the character has often been depicted. He probably will have an enlarged skull to house his bigger brain given that we saw that process begin previously. As for whether he will be green or not, who knows? I would be fine with something that looks like the finished result of the process we see above. Just enough to know it’s not normal looking and our knowledge of what happened putting it together.
It does seem like this is a look that can be more easily achieved by some good prosthetic make-up and not have to replay on CGI. However, until we see the movie who can say for certain? As with all rumors, even from the best sources, take this with a pinch of salt.
