With Disney reimagining their animation films into the live-action genre, The Little Mermaid was bound to follow in the footsteps of its blockbuster predecessors of The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast.

During the 95^th Annual Academy Awards, Disney premiered the full trailer on ABC’s live broadcast with its complete first look at its stars Halle Bailey as Ariel and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula.

Of course, it also showed Johan Hauer-King as Prince Eric and Javier Bardem as King Triton, with voices of Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Awkwafina as Scuttle, and Daveed Diggs as Sebastian.

Here is the full synopsis:

The Little Mermaid is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst of adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea and, while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follower her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land but ultimately places her life—and her father’s crown—in jeopardy.

Despite earlier opposition to changing The Little Mermaid story to fit more modern narratives, audiences may praise Halle Bailey as a singer with her voice featured in this trailer with its signature song, “Part of Your World.”

With Rob Marshall at the helm and new lyrics from Lin-Manuel Miranda, Disney expects The Little Mermaid to be a hit to start the summer.
