The Mandalorian Season 2 Could Bring In These Surprising A-List Directors!

So, while I may not be absolutely bats**t insane for The Mandalorian as most people, I thought it was an okay show. It had its moments, it was fun, and I very much respect the advancements in technology it brought with it. I’ve also always been very partial to the Western genre, so any chance to give us nods to that is A-Ok in my book. All the same, it felt like a very safe take on the genre, and didn’t really push the franchise in any especially-surprising directions. At the end of the day, it felt like a bit of a hollow experience.

But I’ll be damned if the show still doesn’t have me excited for The Mandalorian Season 2. I mean, I already pay for Disney+. I’m not not going to watch it when it hits, that’s for sure. And who knows? Maybe as they go further along they’ll take bigger risks with their storytelling — kinda like how the MCU has gotten progressively better at sending surprises our way.

Well, you can include this new rumor as one such surprise. According to Black Series Rebels, Robert Rodriguez and James Mangold have directed “scenes” of “portions” of The Mandalorian in Season 2. It’s not clear how long the sequences are, but Rodriguez’s contribution has been called “great,” which I guess is better than “terrible.”

I’ll admit, I’m a bit confused at the idea of bringing A-list directors in for mere sequences, but it’s better than nothing, right? I love me some Robert Rodriguez and his early movies helped to solidify my own love for the Western genre. Sure, the likes of Desperado, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and From Dusk Till Dawn weren’t exactly Westerns, but they did have that Western flavor, only with heavy Mexican influence (which, in all fairness, is also part of the Western flavor).

James Mangold also directed Logan, a Western in its own right. It’s also kinda fitting, as he was once on board to direct a Boba Fett movie. His involvement in a Mandalorian project has become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Also notable is that Black Series Rebels also stated that there were other high-profile directors who were brought in, though those were not named. One can’t help but wonder what surprises the Disney+ series has up its sleeve.

Of course, this isn’t the first time The Mandalorian has had A-list talent. The first season featured Taika Waititi as a helmer as well as Bryce Dallas Howard, so it makes sense that they would reach out to other fitting directors.

And I can only hope to they’re also using the show as a testing ground to see if any of these filmmakers could take on an actual Star Wars movie. But all of that is speculation on my part. What do you think of the news of them bringing in A-list directors to take on The Mandalorian? Let us know your thoughts down below!
