Our DC heroes may be busy trying to stop the Anti-Monitor on this years ambitious crossover event Crisis on Infinite Earths on The CW, but after that is all set and done we still have the remainder of the current season of shows like Supergirl. Today via Deadline we learned about the return of a magical menace to National City, Mxyzptlk (it’s pronounced “miks-yez-PIT-əl-ik”) or Mxy the reality bending fifth dimension trickster that had tried to win Kara Danvers’ heart but as always created chaos in the process.
This time around there will be one big difference, Mxy will be portrayed by Thomas Lennon instead of British actor Peter Gadiot. This change in actor is not a problem for the character as he has the reputation as a shape-shiftier. When it comes to Mxy, shape-shifting is the least of everyone’s problem as it is said that he has powers beyond imagining. Fortunately when he appears it is usually for amusement and he tends to bother Superman, who is able to get rid of him by tricking him into saying his name backwards. He first appeared in DC Comics’ Superman #30 on September, 1944 and was created by Jerry Siegel and Ira Yarbrough.
Lennon previously played Felix Unger opposite Matthew Perry’s Oscar Madison in CBS’s The Odd Couple and also starred on the MYT comedy series The State. Along with his writing partner, Robert Ben Garant, he also created the popular Viva Variety and Reno 911!. He also recurred on Lethal Weapon, Bajillion Dollar Properties and Santa Clarita Diet and has done voice work for such popular series like Archer, American Dad and Bob’s Burgers.
The CW’s Supergirl comes from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television with executive producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller.
