In a fun surprise, we have the release of Rob Zombie’s much-anticipated re-imagination of the classic, The Munsters. The film is based on the beloved classic television series from the sixties, a time when television shows were in black and white. Now, these characters are going to get the opportunity to shine in color. Check out the trailer!
The Munsters looks like it’s going to be taking a lot of liberties in filming styles. We see some black and white, we see some uses of neon lighting, as well as your typical bright everyday palette. The latter of which makes them stand out very much. Overall the film looks like it is being made by a fan of the original series and seems to stick to what made it originally work. It will be interesting to see how general audiences receive this film.
As far as storytelling in The Munsters, it appears to be seeing up how Jeff Daniel Phillips’ Herman and Sheri Moon’s Lily first meet and fall in love. But standing between their relationship is going to be Daniel Roebuck’s, Grampa Munster. I am excited to see this as it seems like quirky, simple, fun storytelling rooted in the classic.

Zombie is very well known for his horror films including House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Reject. It is nice to see him do something still in the same spooky genre but a lot more fun. He wrote the script and has been teasing the production of the film for some time now. Designing all the wonderful costumes in the film is András Dániel and Godena-Juhász Attila.

The Munsters will be relocating to theaters and on Peacock sometime in September.
